LAHORE, April 30: The supreme council of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal met on Saturday [April 30] with the MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmed in the chair. The meeting dilated upon various issues of national importance and came up with the next phase of anti-Musharraf drive starting from May 4-31.

The MMA leaders took strong exception to hastily moves by the military dictator and expressed grave concerns over president Musharraf’s deviation from the national stance on Kashmir issue and proposing many options to solve it other then UN resolutions guaranteeing right to self determination to the people of the valley. Through a unanimously passed resolution, it condemned Gen Musharraf for careless experimentation on national matters.

The resolution said General Musharraf’s measures amount to betrayal with the blood of over four hundred thousand Kashmiri martyrs besides Pakistan movement and security, and Kashmiri freedom movement under which he holds fruitless talks with India in the name of CBMs and declare UN resolutions ineffective just to seek New Delhi’s pleasure, instead of proving Pakistan’s role as a party to Kashmiri freedom movement he accepts Indian allegations of cross border terrorism, and than under Indian pressure he practically gives up support to freedom fighters and discourage them from fighting for their freedom.

The meeting also expresses concern that despite allowing all concessions to Indian in the name of CBMs. Indian black laws are still enforced in Kashmir and reign of terror is unleashed on Muslims including rapes, custodial killings and destruction of properties. In fact, these crimes have actually increased recently.

There is no reduction in Indian occupation army while Indian leadership is constantly terming Kashmir as India’s integral part and any change in borders as impossible. On top of it, India constructed Baglihar Dam and Kishan Ganga project in blatant violation of Indus Water Treaty, evacuated civil populations from various areas of Handwara and Baramullah to construct new cantonments, which made it clear that India is not interested in seeking any peaceful and lasting solution to Kashmir issue but wants to strengthen its illegal occupation of the valley.
The historic increase in Indian Defense budget, war exercises in East Punjab and purchase of sophisticated arms and war planes from the US are a clear indication of Indian aggressive designs in the region.

The supreme council observes that under present conditions Pakistan should stop U-turn on Kashmir and play a strong role as a party to the issue for the realization of the right to self determination of Kashmiris under UN resolutions. Besides, the habit of presenting new formulas and options every other day should be stopped and to make all future talks with India meaningful the following conditions of APHC and Muttahida Jihad Council should be observed:

• India should give up the stance of Kashmir being her integral part;
• India should withdraw her forces from Kashmir;
• Black laws be abolished and all innocent retinues be released.

Besides, APHC leadership should also be included in the talks and a time frame be fixed for solving the Kashmir issue. Pakistani government should start fresh efforts to solve the issue by mobilizing public opinion in the country and on the other hand launch an effective diplomatic drive across the world to mobilize world opinion and exposing real Indian designs on all international forums so that the struggle for freedom by Kashmiri people could succeed and sacrifices of millions of martyrs bear fruit. The most important thing in this regard is the complete solidarity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
